I like how NICE it is that this Monitor came with ALL of the Cables and Connectors, to the point that I had (1) left over and can't figure out if I need it or NOT because everything is WORKING OUT FINE!!! All I know is that the (4) that I attached are doing their job to give me a very good screen to look at.I recently bought a "different" Brand Monitor for my son and then had to "BUY a VGA-to-HD Cable" for it to hook up to my son's computer that didn't have an HDMI port. That was a bummer and an additional cost.Thankfully ViewSonic didn't send me down that path of frustration. Though it is "Used/Like New", they sent ALL the cables including an HD Type Connector (but USB) and I'm very glad that I chose another ViewSonic monitor. I can only hope that this monitor lasts as long as the one I bought in 2005, in which I just took down yesterday to be replaced by THIS Monitor. That 2005 Monitor was a "REFURBISHED" tiny little cute 15" monitor with the "Colorful Birds" on it and a Silver Frame. I'm quite surprised that this Model ViewSonic Monitor doesn't have the BIRDS anywhere to be seen on the Frame, but I guess that's okay. I supposed the Birds flew away when this one was being made. (A silly joke). Overall at the moment, I'm content. I just have to get used to it being SO BIG, after looking at 15" for a long while.Since my last 5:4 ratio monitor died, I have been looking to buy another one, but monitor manufacturers don't make them any more. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if ViewSonic discontinues this one before long.I purchased this one instead of a cheaper ViewSonic monitor because it has an adjustable stand and sits lower on the desk than most monitors, which I prefer. My last 5:4 ratio monitor had a fluorescent back-light, which is easier on the eyes than LED back-lights. However, monitors with fluorescent back-lights are no longer being made. Unfortunately, LED back-lights are very hard on the eyes, so the monitor must have eye-saving features. This one does, and they work well. It uses flicker-free technology, and it filters out blue light. Before I bought this monitor, I bought one from Asus that didn't have eye-saving features, and I could barely stand to look at it.The image is not perfect. The older tn-panel monitors were always darker at the bottom. This one has IPS technology. I was hoping that it would be evenly colored throughout all portions of the screen. It almost is, but not quite. It is slightly lighter on the right side of the screen, and the lower-left quadrant of the screen is slightly darker than the rest. However, I've quickly gotten used to these defects and don't notice them any more. (The color anomalies are very slight and might not be noticed by everyone.)The image is extremely crisp, and the colors are well saturated. I had to turn down the brightness and contrast to make the image less bright. So I think this is a good monitor. If you need a monitor with 5:4 aspect ratio, this may be the best you can do.This replaced a 19" Viewsonic from 2007 which I was very happy with but I wanted a larger one that could display two browser screens side by side that I could easily see from two feet away. This 24" Viewsonic does it perfectly. I run this on a Windows 8 computer and the picture is beautiful and flawless. The monitor came well packaged, I took it out of the box, plugged in the VGA cable that was still attached to the computer from the old monitor, plugged in the power cord, adjusted the resolution to 1920x1080 and it was ready to use. No color, tint, contrast, or other adjustment was needed. It came with a disk to install Viewsonic drivers and a Viewsonic monitor control app. It did not have the ones for Win 8 and I didn't bother to download the ones from their website because the drivers and control app that came with Win 8 worked fine for me. The computer is a Lenovo Intel I5 with the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel app that handles the monitor adjustments just fine. The monitor has built in speakers of OK quality but I don't use sound with this machine and would have been just as happy if there were no speakers. The monitor is fully adjustable for tilt, height, pivot, and swivel. This was very important to me and many of the competitors' comparably priced units don't offer this. This monitor is exactly 22 inches wide and 17.75 inches high from the bottom of the base at the lowest height setting.I also like the fact that it came with a three year warranty from Viewsonic.I've had this monitor for three days now and am very happy with it and am glad that I didn't have to do any messing around to set it up.02/04/13. I have these additional comments since my initial review. I have tried the adjustment buttons in the lower right front of the monitor and they all work properly. There is an input selector option to allow a switch between input on the VGA, DVI, or Displayport ports. One minor item that is missing on this unit is the two cord keepers that my other two Viewsonics have. These are the keepers that bundle the cords and let them run down the back of the upright part of the stand. No big deal, but it would have been nice to have them included.Zero dead pixels, bright backlight, good color reproduction (not studio level but it's great for general computing). This monitor has a maximum resolution of 1280x1024 at 75Hz. This is perfect for reducing eye strain that many people experience with 60 Hz monitors. It also swivels, tilts, and is height adjustable a few inches. Finally, the screen can be rotated 90 degrees if you want to rock a 1024x1280 resolution instead (you will also need to rotate the screen via your graphics driver software or system preferences so the image is output in the correct orientation). This "square" monitor is perfect for my older computer that runs software incompatible with widescreen monitors. I enjoy using a monitor that doesn't waste space on my desk by showing ever-present black bars on the sides as my other widescreen monitor did.Good monitor but sound is a little tinny apart from that not bad if I was to get another one probably get a bigger screen and not bother with built in speakers.A wishy washy screen, lacking in clarity and all those good things needed for a good viewing experience. The Display Port on this monitor is not working correctly as it leaves "static lines" running across the screen diagonally and causes the screen to blank out periodically. I tried my (Lenovo Tiny) PC on another DP monitor without issues, and I tried a know good DP cable with this monitor with the same result. When connected to the old VGA inputs there is no problem, but why would I settle for that? I did not try a DP-DVI or DP-VGA dongle, but I'd rather not.Unfortunately we didn't get this set up within the 30-day return window in order to return it to Amazon, so I'm going to have to go through Viewsonic. This will be my last Viewsonic purchase. The last 3 I've purchased over the years have had issues. The quality just isn't there anymore and there's got to be a reason that they're cheaper than the competition.I bought this screen to use in its 90-degree-rotated 'portrait' mode.... The picture quality is beautiful and vibrant if I'm looking head-on at the monitor, but if my head moves a few degrees left or right, the image starts to fade. (It seems to have a fine viewing angle along the other axis, which means left/right head movement probably wouldn't be an issue if I were using it in landscape mode...) I'm still *mostly* recommending it, mostly just because affordable rotating monitors are so difficult to find these days, and the picture quality really is nice as long as your head is in the right place... but, definitely be warned that this screen is only suitable in portrait mode if you will be sitting still in one place. This monitor was well packed.Fixing the base onto the stand proved problematical until a metal lug broke off. After that the base flitted OK. Its difficult to see what purpose the lug served, but it seems to work alright without it.Difficult to comment on the image quality of the display as the old computer it is connected to cannot output the native resolution. The image quality is certainly adequate at the resolution used (1280 x 768). At this resolution the image is ever so slightly squashed. This distortion is so slight that I find it unnoticeable unless I take a ruler to the circle in the center of a test card. You cant blame the monitor for this though. My desktop picture includes an image of the moon. The distortion is unnoticeable on this image. The image brightness is absolutely fine if viewed from directly in front. However the viewing angle would leave something to be desired if it were to be used for any purpose other than a computer that you wish to sit at.There is a pixel towards the top left of the screen which is permanently on. I'm sure that if I could be bothered to complain, it would warrant a replacement. However, so far, I hove only noticed it on a black screen. As this is a wide screen monitor replacing an old 4:3, I decided to pay a bit extra for one which included speakers. as an audio professional I should have known better. The sound quality is so awful, that I have gone back to using my old speakers. I would say that its only worth using the speakers in this monitor if space is an issue.I'm currently using the VGA input. The presence of both HDMI and DVI inputs will be useful when it comes to upgrading the computer.Overall this monitor suits the purpose for which I bought it and I don't feel the need to replace it. However, in hindsight I would have paid a bit less for one without speakers.
